Scrumdiddilyumptious Day set for Wacky Wonky Walk & Kids Fest, Oct. 25 in downtown San Diego

Lace up your sneakers, find your best costume and prepare your sweet tooth for the Wacky Wonky Walk & Kids Festival, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015 at San Diego Waterfront Park, County Administration Center, 1600 Pacific Highway in downtown San Diego. This “world of imagination” will take over the park with a 4.89K Wacky Walk and Pure Imagination Festival with wacky activity extravaganza to raise much-needed funds for the San Diego Center for Children and its vital behavioral health and educational programs for children and youth throughout San Diego County.

With warm days and cooler days still taking turns, cool summer gazpacho and spicy fall-flank steak (cooked with jalapenos, cilantro and citrus) share the menu at Waters Fine Foods and Catering.
“Our dishes are always seasonally and forecast driven, and we’re in a transitional period because the weather is still warm, but we’re also having some cooler days, so more fall foods are reflected in our changing menu,” said Courtney Isaac, senior event designer.

La Jolla Town Council hosted a standing-room-only forum at the Rec Center Oct. 8 to learn more about the three candidates running for the City Council District 1 seat to be vacated by Sherri Lightner in November 2016 — Barbara Bry, Ray Ellis and Joe LaCava.
La Jolla Light publisher Phyllis Pfeiffer served as moderator, asking questions collected from the Town Council, San Diego Police Officers Association, La Jolla Light and its readers and the audience.

First Maker Faire San Diego celebrates inventive DIY-ers in Balboa Park

Maker Faire was created to celebrate the joys of inventiveness. It’s a two-day, all-ages fiesta showcasing the Maker movement, an amorphous community of tech-savvy do-it-yourselfers that has been growing wildly over the past decade. The first Maker Faire took place in the Bay Area in 2006; there are now annual faires around the world, attracting hundreds of thousands of attendees.

Dear grocery store bagger guys:
Could we talk? I mean, this conversation is way overdue. Here’s the problem: You guys are young and strong. I am not young, and, after having my chest broken by a drunk driver, not strong. It doesn’t matter whether I bring my own re-usable bags or you bag it in the store’s plastic ones, you guys put ALL the heaviest stuff — like both half gallons of milk AND the half gallon of juice — in the same bag. Then, instead of putting that bag in the child seat where I might have a fighting chance of wrestling it into the trunk of my car, you stash it under the child seat where I’d need a forklift to haul it out.
